Attack Pest Control
Professional website driving local leads for a multi-county pest control company
The challenge
Attack Pest Control is an established, professional pest control company based in Barton-le-Clay, Bedfordshire, covering a wide service area across Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex and London. They had the experience, the qualifications — Safe Contractor approved, NPTA members — and the reputation across multiple counties. But their website was actively working against them.
The old site looked amateur. In pest control, customers are often stressed or panicking. They need to feel immediately confident that they’re calling someone legitimate and competent. The existing site — a dated template with stock imagery — didn’t inspire that confidence. Competitors with more polished sites were winning business, despite offering the same service.
Local search visibility was poor. When someone across any of their six coverage counties searched for pest control, Attack wasn’t showing up. The site had no structured content targeting local search terms, no Google Business Profile integration, and no technical SEO foundations. For a business covering such a wide area — from Bedfordshire to London — this was a major missed opportunity.
The phone wasn’t ringing. The ultimate measure of a service business website is enquiries. The existing site had a contact form buried in the navigation and no prominent phone number. Visitors who were ready to call couldn’t easily find how to do it.
The approach
Multi-county SEO research
Before writing a line of code, I mapped out the search landscape across all six counties. I identified every relevant search term a potential customer might use: pest-specific terms (“rat control Bedfordshire”, “wasp nest removal Hertfordshire”, “pigeon control London”), service terms (“emergency pest control Buckinghamshire”), and informational terms (“signs of mice infestation”).
This research shaped the entire site structure. Rather than a single “Services” page, each pest type and service area gets its own dedicated, optimised page — giving the site the best chance of ranking for specific local queries across Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex and London.
Trust-first design
The design prioritises the elements that convert worried homeowners into paying customers:
- Immediate credibility — Professional photography, clean layout, Safe Contractor approval and NPTA membership displayed prominently
- Visible contact methods — Phone number in the header on every page, sticky mobile CTA, contact forms at natural decision points
- Service area clarity — Visitors immediately know if Attack covers their area, with the full six-county reach made clear
- Social proof — Customer reviews and years of experience featured throughout
The solution
Site architecture
The site was built on WordPress with a custom theme, hosted on Hetzner. The custom theme gives full control over the design and performance without the bloat of page builders, while WordPress provides a familiar content management interface for the team to update service pages and content themselves.
Service landing pages
Each pest type has a dedicated page structured for both users and search engines. Attack covers a comprehensive range of pest issues — rodents, flies, pigeons, wasps and bees, insects, and fleas — and each gets its own targeted content:
- Clear description of the pest and the problems it causes
- Signs to look for helping visitors confirm they have the right issue
- The treatment process explaining what to expect, reducing anxiety
- Pricing transparency where possible, building trust
- Prominent CTA making it easy to call or request a callback
This structure means when someone searches “rat control Hertfordshire” or “wasp nest removal Bedfordshire”, they land on a page that speaks directly to their problem, in their area, with a clear way to get help immediately.
Mobile-first design
Over 70% of pest control searches happen on mobile — often in the moment of discovering a problem. The mobile experience is designed for urgency:
- Sticky call button — Always one tap away from making a call
- Fast loading — Under 1 second even on 3G connections
- Scannable content — Key information visible without scrolling
- Large tap targets — Easy to interact with when stressed or in a hurry
Technical SEO
Beyond the content strategy, the technical foundations are optimised for a business covering a wide geographic area:
- Schema markup — LocalBusiness and Service schema helping Google understand the business and its multi-county coverage
- XML sitemap — Auto-generated, keeping search engines up to date
- Canonical URLs — Preventing duplicate content issues across location pages
- Open Graph tags — Professional previews when shared on social media
- Core Web Vitals — All metrics in the green zone
