Tensor PLC

Corporate website and product microsites for a UK workforce management leader

Tensor PLC

The challenge

Tensor PLC, based in St Neots, Cambridgeshire, is a leading provider of workforce management and security solutions across the UK. Their product range spans time and attendance systems, access control, visitor monitoring, HR software, CCTV, and building energy management — a complex portfolio that needed an equally comprehensive digital presence.

When I joined as their sole web developer, the challenges were significant:

The web estate was fragmented. Multiple websites had been built over the years to target different product lines and SEO keywords, but they lacked consistency in design, messaging, and technical standards. Managing updates across this portfolio was time-consuming and error-prone.

Product discovery was confusing. With such a broad range of solutions, visitors struggled to find the specific product that matched their needs. The information architecture didn’t guide prospects through the catalogue effectively, and cross-selling opportunities between product lines were being missed.

Content management was a bottleneck. Every update to product pages, case studies, or news items required developer involvement, slowing down the marketing team and creating a backlog of content changes.

The approach

I took a holistic view of Tensor’s digital needs, focusing on consolidating and modernising their web presence.

The strategy was straightforward:

  1. Audit and consolidate — Map every website, assess its SEO value, and create a unified content strategy
  2. Modernise the stack — Rebuild with Astro and Svelte components, powered by Payload CMS for content management, deployed to Vercel
  3. SEO-first architecture — Structure every site to maximise organic visibility for workforce management search terms
  4. Empower the team — Payload CMS gives the marketing team full control over product pages, case studies, and news without developer involvement

The solution

Corporate web presence

Tensor PLC digital architecture overview

The corporate website serves as the anchor for Tensor’s digital presence. Built with Astro and Svelte components, it features a clear information architecture that guides visitors from product discovery through to enquiry, while ensuring every page is optimised for search engines targeting workforce management and security keywords.

Payload CMS powers all content across the site, giving the marketing team full control over:

  • Product pages — Detailed specifications, features, and benefits for each solution
  • Case studies — Customer success stories demonstrating ROI and implementation outcomes
  • News and updates — Company announcements, product launches, and industry insights
  • SEO metadata — Custom titles, descriptions, and Open Graph content for every page

Product microsites

Supporting the main site, I built a network of product-specific microsites — each targeting long-tail search terms for individual solutions like time and attendance software, access control systems, and visitor management. This multi-site SEO strategy significantly increased Tensor’s organic visibility across their entire product range.

Performance and deployment

Deployed to Vercel, the site benefits from edge caching and automatic rebuilds triggered by content changes in Payload CMS. Astro’s static-first approach means pages load near-instantly, with Svelte components providing interactivity where needed — product configurators, enquiry forms, and interactive product comparisons.

The results

The modernised web presence delivered measurable improvements across every metric:

  • Unified web presence — Multiple websites brought under consistent design standards powered by Astro, Svelte, and Payload CMS
  • Self-service content management — The marketing team publishes product updates, case studies, and news without developer involvement
  • Improved organic visibility — SEO-optimised multi-site strategy increasing search rankings for workforce management and security terms across the UK
  • Fast, reliable performance — Astro’s static generation and Vercel’s edge network delivering sub-second page loads across all sites
  • Scalable architecture — A modern stack that supports rapid iteration as Tensor’s product portfolio grows
